Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 6 March 2011

Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’re going to travel musically to Memphis, and fulfill a request, but most of what we’re going to play this evening will be for no particular reason.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Randy Brian’s Collection
I ran across a record in my friend Randy Brian’s collection called “Dotty” which it had caught my eye as it was my mothers diminutive “Dotty”. So here’s that record, along with a few others from Randy’s collection.

Dotty – Dixie Music Makers
Wow – Kentucky Colonels / Irving Kaufman, v.
Don’t Be Angry With Me – Frank Black AHO / Unidentified, v.
There’s Everything Nice About You – Nat Shilkret & Victor Orchestra / Ed Smalle, Johnny Marvin, v.

Segment 2: James Melton
Listener Dorothy in San Francisco asked to hear several songs by her favorite singer, James Melton. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the records she requested, but I do have these:

Do I Hear You Saying “I Love You” – Fred Rich and His Hotel Astor Orchestra / James Melton, v.
The Song Is Ended (But The Melody Lingers On) – The Columbians / James Melton, v.
Ramona – Ben Selvin AHO / James Melton, v.

Segment 3: Memphis
Listener Michael asked for something by the Memphis Melody Players, inspiring this Memphis set.

A Blues Serenade – Memphis Melody Players
Wonderful Dream – Original Memphis Melody Boys
Miss Golden Brown – Memphis Jazzers

Segment 4: Flip Side
Our first segment was four records from the collection of my friend Randy Brian. For our last segment let’s turn those records over and play the other side.

I’m Tellin’ The Birds, I’m Tellin’ The Bees – Dixie Music Makers
I’m Goin’ South – Kentucky Colonels (Harry M. Woods and Abner Silver)

The Two Of Us – Frank Black AHO
he More We Are Together – Nat Shilkret and The Victor Orchestra / The Revelers, v.

Segment 5: For no particular reason

Tony’s Wife – Ramona Davies
Melody of Love – Wayne King AHO / Frankyn MacCormack, v.
I’ve Lost My Dog – Ray Miller
