Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 28 June 2009

Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show, we’re gonna hear from some novelty orchestras, celebrate summer, take a trip, do some dancing, and put our mind at ease.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Novelty Songs
Last week I was listening to some vintage novelty solo piano recordings and thought, “How about a segment of novelty songs by novelty orchestras?” Well, here it is.

How’s Your Uncle? – Arthur Rivers’ Novelty Orchestra (Fred Hall) / Arthur Fields, v.
Give Yourself A Pat On The Back – Paul’s Novelty Orchestra / Frank Luther, v.
There’s A Bend At The End Of The Swanee – Harry Barth’s Novelty Orchestra
Mysterious Mose – Radio All Star Novelty Orchestra / Unidentified, v.

Segment 2: Argentina
For no particular reason, we’re gonna take a musical trip to Argentina.

Argentina – Atlantic Dance Orchestra
Cigarette – The Argentinians (Antonio Lopez Orchestra)
Down In Argentine – Dixie Daisies (Bob Haring) / Unidentified v.

Segment 3: Argentina
We just went musically to Argentina, where the national dance is the tango. Again, I don’t know why I would have thought of this, but as the saying goes, it takes two to tango, so for no particular reason, here’s a set of tangos.

Tango Americano – Paul Whiteman AHO
Julian Argentine Tango – Denza Dance Orchestra
Havana – Tango – Leo Reisman AHO

Segment 4: Summer

Too Many Kisses In The Summer – California Ramblers / Frank Harris, v.
Don’t Forget When The Summer Rolls By – Joe Herlihy AHO
In The Good Old Summertime – Nat Shilkret & Victor Orchestra / Lewis James
One Summer Night – Raymond Dance Band (The Knickerbockers) / Irving Kaufman, v.

Segment 5: Mind

Nothin’ On My Mind – Ted Weems AHO / Parker Gibbs, v.
Put Your Mind Right On It – Jimmy Johnson AHO
Peace of Mind – Dick Robertson
