Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’ll celebrate the birthdays of Vaughn De Leath, Ted Weems, Vincent Youmans and Al Hoffman, and play some “baby” songs.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: My Baby
This past week I had a request for “My Baby Says It’s So” by Vincent Lopez and His Orchestra. Unfortunately, I don’t have that record, but here are a few of the 149 records about “my baby” that I do have.

My Baby Just Cares For Me – Isham Jones AHO / Frank Sylvano, v.
Everybody Loves My Baby – George Olsen and His Orchestra
I’m Crazy ‘Bout My Baby – Fats Waller and His Rhythm
Yes, Sir, That’s My Baby – Carlyle Stevenson’s El Patio Orchestra

Segment 2: Vaughn de Leath
September 26 marked the birth in 1896 in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois of Leonore Vonderleath. Thinking her name was too German sounding, around the end of World War I, she changed her performing name to Vaughn de Leath.

Ukulele Lady – Vaughn De Leath
I Can’t Give You Anything But Love – Vaughn De Leath
I’ve Got A Feeling I’m Falling – Vaughn De Leath

Segment 3: Ted Weems
September 26 marked the birth in 1901 in Picairn, Pennsylvania of bandleader Ted Weems.

Washing Dishes With My Sweetie – Ted Weems AHO / Parker Gibbs, v.
I Still Get A Thrill (Thinking Of You) – Ted Weems AHO / Arthur Jarrett, v.
Remarkable Girl – Ted Weems AHO / Joe “Country” Washburn, v.

Segment 4: Vincent Youmans
Sept. 27, marked the birth in New York City in 1898 of composer Vincent Youmans.

Tea For Two – Richard Himber and His Studebaker Champion Orchestra / Joey Nash
I Know That You Know – The Revelers
Hallelujah! – The Astorites

Segment 5: Al Hoffman
September 25 marked the birth in 1902 in Minsk, Russia of composer Al Hoffman.

Heartaches – Bert Lown and His Biltmore Hotel Orchestra / The Biltmore Trio
I’m In A Dancing Mood – Jack Hylton AHO / Bert Yarlett, v.
Fit As A Fiddle – Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians / Frank Zullo and Quartet
