Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’ll fulfill some requests, go cuckoo, and celebrate the birthdays of Fred Van Eps, Sam Coslow and the New Year.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Cuckoo
Exactly 75 years today, on January 1, 1930, one of radio’s first comedy programs, “The Cuckoo Hour”, was heard for the first time on the NBC-Blue Network. So here to commemorate “The Cuckoo Hour” are some cuckoo songs. You will no doubt recognize the tune of this first one, but I’ll bet you’ve never heard the lyrics.

The Dance of the Cuckoos – The Crazy Star Band / Fred Douglas
Cuckoo – Original Indiana Five
Cuckoo Blues – Tiny Parham and His Musicians
You Simply Got Me Cuckoo – Kaplan’s Melodians

Segment 2: Requests from India
I recently received a request for several songs from listener Sean in Bohpa, India – which I am happy to be able fulfill.

Am I Blue – B A Rolfe and His Lucky Strike Orchestra / Vaughn DeLeath
Falling in Love Again – Marlene Deitrich
What’ll I Do? – Paul Whiteman AHO

Segment 3: Fred Van Eps
December 30, marked the birth in 1878 in Somerville, New Jersey of banjoist Fred Van Eps.

I’m Sitting On Top Of The World – Fred Van Eps (Banjo)
Teasing the Cat – Fred Van Eps Trio
Whipped Cream – Fred Van Eps (Banjo)

Segment 4: Sam Coslow
December 27 marked the birth in 1902 in New York City of writer Sam Coslow.

Sing You Sinners – Harlem Hot Chocolates (Ellington)
True Blue Lou – Ben Pollack ah Park Central Orch / Scrappy Lambert
Just One More Chance – Gus Arnheim ah Coconut Grove Orch/ Donald Novus, v.

Segment 5: New Years
New Year’s Day has been observed on this day in most English-speaking countries since 1751 when the British calendar act was passed. Before that, folks wished everyone a Happy New Year on March 25, to coincide, approximately, with the beginning of spring.

Let’s Start the New Year Off Right – Bob Crosby AHO / Bing Crosby
New Years Eve in a Haunted House – Raymond Scott Quintette

Segment :6 Happy New Year
With best wishes to you and yours for a safe, healthy, happy and exceptionally prosperous New Year, this is Glenn Robison, and as always, I thank you for your very kind attention.

Auld Lang Syne – Frank C. Stanley
