Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 13 June 2004

Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’ll celebrate the birthdays of Fred Waring and Al Dubin, have a vocabulary lesson, and listen to this past week in recording history. But we’re gonna get started by doing some sinning.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Sins
I received request from new listener Vinny in Albany, New York for “It’s No Sin”. I may not have that record, but I have plenty of others about sin, and here are some of them.

My Sin – California Ramblers / Ed Kirkeby
Sing You Sinners – The Revelers
Tain’t No Sin – Dan Russo a/h Oriole Orchestra

Segment 2: Fred Waring
June 9 marked the birth in 1900 in Tyrone, Pennsylvania of bandleader, songwriter and inventor Fred Waring.

Won’t You Tell Me Hon (When We’re Gonna Be One) – Waring’s Pennsylvanians / Fred Waring, Bill Townsend, Francis Foster, Fred Culley, Poley McClintock, v.

Segment 3: Faineant
The word for this weeks vocabulary lesson is faineant. As a noun, a faineant is an irresponsible idler. As an adjective, it refers to being idle and ineffectual; indolent or lazy. So here’s a set of faineant songs.

I Ain’t Lazy, I’m Just Dreamin’ – Eddie Elkins AHO / Chick Bullock, v.
Lazy Lazy River – Mississippi Sheiks / Walter Vinson, v.
Lazybone Blues – King Brady’s Clarinet Band
