Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 4 January 2004

Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’ll fulfill some requests, stop and smell the roses, have a parade, and listen to this past week in recording history.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Parade
This is the first Rapidly Rotating Records show of 2004, and, of course, this past week, the 115th Rose Parade took place in Pasadena, California. In honor of the Rose Parade we’re going to have our own musical parade

I Love a Parade – Harry Richman
Parade of the Blues – Earl Burtnett AHO
The Mosquito Parade – Peerless Quartet/Unknown v.
Match Parade – Jack Payne BBC Dance Orchestra / Billy Scott Comber

Segment 2: Roses
The musical parade continues, and in honor of the Rose Parade, here’s a set of rapidly rotating records about roses.

Roses – Jean Goldkette AHO
Life Will Be a Bed of Roses – Romeo Dance Orch.
Russian Rose – Broadway Dance Orchestra

Segment 3: Bother
I recently got a very nice e-mail from new listener Gregory in San Diego. Unfortunately I can’t play any version of one his requests, but there were two other requests that I can fulfill. Here with the first one.

Don’t Let It Bother You – Fats Waller
Hot and Bothered – Duke Ellington AHO
Don’t Let It Bother You – Joe Reichman AHO/Mildred Monson

Segment 4: Sing
Listener Gregory also requested “Sing, It’s Good For You”, which is the inspiration for a whole segment about singing.

Sing, It’s Good for You – Dorsey Bros Orch/Jean Bowes
Sing – Laddie Cliff
Sing On – Sam Morgan’s Jazz Band

Segment 5: This Week in Recording History

Back in Your Own Backyard – Ruth Etting
Boneyard Shuffle – Arkansas Travelers
(January 4, 1927)
Crying for the Carolines – Sam Lanin AHO
(January 3, 1930)
