Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’re going to celebrate the birthdays of Brian Lawrance and Sidney Clare, listen to this past week in recording history and have some hello and good-bye songs.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 3: Hello Bluebird
On August 15, in 1877 Thomas Edison wrote the president of the Telegraph Company in Pittsburgh, PA. The letter stated that the word, ““hello”” would be a more appropriate greeting than ““ahoy,”” as suggested by Alexander Graham Bell, for answering the telephone. And so it is that we pick up the phone and say: Helloooooo.” And if “Bluebird” were calling, we’d answer, “Hello, Bluebird.”

Hello, Bluebird – Cliquot Club Eskimos / Tom Stacks
Hello Beautiful – Gil Rodin AHO / Eddie Gale
Hello, Hello – Louisiana Five

Cobblestones – Ted Weems AHO / Parker Gibbs, v.

Segment 5: Good bye
Well, earlier in the show, we had a set of “hello” songs. So it only seems fitting to have a set of “good-bye” songs.

Scram! – Fats Waller and His Rhythm
