Segment 1: Jessie Crawford
December 2 marked the birth in 1895 in Woodland, California, of “the poet of the organ”, Jessie Crawford.

Segment 2: Lady Be Good
December 1 in 1924, “Lady Be Good” opened at the Liberty Theater in New York City and ran for 330 performances.

Segment 3: Oriental Influence
December 2 in 1932, “The Adventures of Charlie Chan” was first heard on the NBC Blue radio network. The mystery series featuring the Chinese detective, based in part on experiences of a genuine Chinese detective in Honolulu named Chang Apana. So here to commemorate the radio debut of Charlie Chan are some rapidly rotating records with an oriental flavor.

Segment 4: Baby
December 2 in 1952, Denver television station KOA-TV broadcast the first human birth to be seen on TV. I have lots and lots of records with “Baby” in the titles, and here are just a few of them.

December 3 marked the birth in 1907 in New Orleans of Connee Boswell.

December 4 in 1927, Duke Ellington’s big band opened at the famed Cotton Club in Harlem.
