Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show we’re going to commemorate a TV series, a radio series and have a set of records featuring the saxophone.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Dirty
We’re going to start off by playing some dirty records. Some dirty, filthy records. No, not dirty like pornographic records, or even dirty like dusty records. Last week on November 5 in 1929, McKinney’s Cotton Pickers recorded “Plain Dirt”. So here is “Plain Dirt”, and a few other dirty records.

Plain Dirt – McKinneys Cotton Pickers
Dirty Dirty Dirty – Jelly Roll Morton
Dirty Hands, Dirty Face – Ernest Stevens Dance Orch
The Dirty Dozens – Count Basie

Segment 2: Meeting
November 6 in 1947, the longest running series on network television, “Meet the Press” was seen for the first time on NBC. In commemoration, here’s a set of songs about meetings.

Til We Meet Again – Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra / Franklyn Baur, v.
Fancy Our Meeting – George Fisher and His Kit-Cat Band
Meet Me in the Gloaming – Don Bestor/Johnny Russell
Fancy Meeting You – Victor Young and his orchestra / Dick Powell, v.

Segment 3: Saxophone
November 6 marked the birth in 1841 in Belgium of inventor Antoine Joseph Sax. In 1846 he patented his family of saxophones. So here in honor of Adolphe Sax, are some songs featuring the saxophone.

Sax-O-Phun – George Olsen and His Music
Smackin’ the Sax – Phillips Louisville Jug Band
Lotta Sax Appeal – Andy Kirk and his 12 Clouds of Joy
Playing My Saxophone – Fess Williams and his Royal Flush Orchestra

Segment 4: Life
November 9 in 1948, “This is Your Life” debuted on NBC radio. So in commemoration here’s a set of songs all about life.

Best Things in Life are Free – Jack Hylton / Hugo Rignold, Chappie D’Amato, v.
Laughing at Life – McKinney’s Cotton Pickers / Bill Coty, v.
It’s a Great Life if you don’t weaken – Sam Lanin and His Orchestra / Smith Ballew, v.
