Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

We have a “charming” show for you this evening. We’re going on the road, we’ll celebrate a birthday, and have a vocabulary lesson.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Charming
Sir James M. Barnie said, “If you have “it”, you don’t need to have anything else, and if you don’t have it, it doesn’t much matter what else you have.” The “it” Sir James was talking about is charm – and here are some charming songs.

The Snake Charmer – Isham Jones AHO
Music Hath Charms – Bing Crosby, v.
What’s Keeping My Prince Charming – Jack Payne
The Snake Charmer – Jack Harris and His Orchestra / Dinah Miller, v.

Segment 2: Susurrus
I learned a new word the other day. The word is susurrus, a noun that means: a soft, indistinct whispering sound. So, here is a set of susurrous songs.

Whispers in the Dark – Dick Jurgens AHO
Whispering – Paul Whiteman and His Ambassador Orchestra
To Whisper Dear, I Love You – Gus Arnheim Coconut Grove Orch / Donald Novis, v.
The Song is Ended but the melody lingers on – Jack Smith and Irving Berlin

Segment 3: On The Road
September 10 marked the birth in 1934 in Wilmington, North Carolina of hard-edged news reporter Charles Kuralt, who chronicled the lives of ordinary Americans in his long-running series On the Road. So here in honor of Charles Kuralt are some songs about being “on the road”.

I Travel the Road – Ray Noble
Dusty Road – Nat Shilkret AHO / Nelson Eddy, v.
The Gypsy in my Soul – Jack Harris
Weary Traveler – Mills Blue Ribbon Band

Segment 4: September
With less than 100 days til Christmas, here’s a song about….September.

September in the Rain – Geraldo AHO / Cyril Grantham, v.

Segment 5: Maurice Chevalier
September 12 marked the birth in 1888 near Paris, France of Maurice Auguste Chevalier.

La lecon de Charleston – Maurice Chevalier
I Wonder Where My Baby is Tonight – Maurice Chevalier
You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me – Maurice Chevalier
