A “Beeline to Dixie” Edition of RRR #1217 Nov. 12, 2023

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who this fellow is? He’s musician, singer and songwriter Ernest Jansen Ingle, better known as “Red Ingle.” He’s best remembered for his comedy records with Spike Jones and His City Slickers and his own group, The Natural Seven, but in addition to some interesting biographical information, you’ll hear three of his earlier recordings with Ted Weems and His Orchestra. J. Bodewalt Lampe, Jeffrey T. Branen and Charlie Davis also have birthday segments this week. And in the final segment, we’ll motor down to Nashville via the Dixie Bee Line. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Click on the player above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.

Wow, yet another musical Scott High grad (Red Ingle)! That is now three famous (or semi-famous) grads that I have learned went to Scott since I started listening to your show. Until I became a listener, I thought that the only grads of note were my dad and his brother (just kidding, of course). I look forward to seeing who else you might dig up (not literally, of course).

Thanks and keep those 78s and the background info (especially if it involves Toledo) coming.

    Glenn,

When I first signed on as a recurring supporter, I was surprised that there was no “undo” for later use. I mentioned it, perhaps to you, or maybe to someone else, but I remember a “yep, weird” acknowledgement/commiseration from SOMEbody.

Alas, the cost of money has effected quite a dent in my monthly income (a matter beyond the scope of this conversation), so I have to cut out. Unfortunately, KISL doesn’t seem to want to answer the phone now, let alone publish how to stop recurring payments, so I called AmEx and asked them to deny future draws from KISL. That’s not how I normally do things, but given KISL’s apparent plan to let us in but not out, I had to take a more draconian measure.

There’s nothing that they or you have done, I’m just getting short on dough. If they wish to get in touch with me, they’re welcome to figure out how, and then do so. It’ll probably be easier than for me to find them. You might want to let them know that, since I suspect I’m not the only person who finds the difficulty on the website to be unseemly. When things turn around, I’ll be back, but next time it will be with a paper check sent by US Mail. You can let them know that too. (You might wish to remind them that they can provide an easier way, but I think you probably have already.)

No rancor, wish me luck (and money), and keep the show going.

    Best,

    -Alan
