Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

This evening is our special Father’s Day edition of the show. We’ve got songs about fathers, daddies, papas, and even a grandpa or two.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Father
We’re going to begin with “His ‘n’ Hers” versions of what was a very popular song in its day entitled “Thank Your Father”. I have at least nine different renditions of this song, but here are two of my favorites.

Thank Your Father – Harry Richman
Thank Your Father – Helen Kane
If Your Father Only Knew – Jack Jackson
The Father’s Getaway – Earl Hines

Segment 2: Papa
There are a number of different forms of address for grandparents. My two granddaughters happen to refer to me as “Papa”. So here’s a set of “papa” songs.

Poor Papa – Whispering Jack Smith
Puddin’ Papa – Get Happy Band
Sweet Little Papa – Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five
Mama Loves Papa – The Georgians

Segment 3: Daddy’s
For this segment of our special father’s day edition of rapidly rotating records, we’re going to go from songs about papa, to songs about daddy’s.

My Daddy’s Dream-Time Lullaby – Coon Sanders
Lazy Daddy – The Wolverines
Oh Daddy – Dodds and Parham
My Daddy Rocks Me – Husk O’Hare and his Footwarmers / Turk Savage, v.

Segment 4: The Old Man
Let’s see, we’ve had songs about fathers, papas, and daddies….In the final segment of this special father’s day edition of rapidly rotating records, we’ve got some songs using another synonym for father, namely the old man.

So Is Your Old Man – Klien Tindull Paramount Serenaders
Old Man Blues – Red Perkins and His Dixie Ramblers
Grandpa’s Spells – Jelly Roll Morton’s Red Hot Peppers
