Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evenings show we’re going to tangle with the law, climb some mountains, explore a few mysteries, and sing, sing, sing.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Lawyers
October 18 in 1943, the first broadcast of “Perry Mason” was presented on CBS Radio. So here is a set of songs to commemorate Perry Mason and all TV lawyers.

I Know Your Lying – Coon- Sanders Original Nighthawk Orchestra
They Can’t Fool Me – George Formby
Tell Me Who – Albert Brunies and the Half-way House Orchestra
It’s Written All Over Your Face – The Boswell Sisters

Segment 2: Hilltops
October 19 marked the birth in 1850 of Annie S. Peck. So what’s Annie’s claim to fame? Well, in 1895, when she turned 45, she won international recognition by climbing the Matterhorn, and then went on to conquer other mountains. So here to commemorate Annie’s accomplishments, are some hilltop songs.

Mountain Greenery – Roger Wolfe Kahn AHO
High Up on a Hilltop – Annette Hanshaw
I’m Sitting High on a Hilltop – Victor Young
Just an Echo in the Valley – Bing Crosby

Segment 3: Mystery Songs
October 20 in 1930, one of the most memorable of all radio shows, “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”, was heard on NBC for the first time. So here to commemorate Sherlock Holmes are some mystery songs.

I’m Wonderin’ Who – Frank Trumbauer AHO
I Wonder What’s Become of Sally – Irving Kaufman
Guess Who? – Frankie & Johnny Orchestra
Where are You? – Montovani and His Orchestra / George Barclay, v.

Segment 4: Singing
October 22 in 1883, the first performance by the Metropolitan Opera was presented in their new Opera House, on Broadway between 39th and 40th. I’m not going to play opera records, although there were a lot of 78 RPM recordings of operas made. I am, however, going to play some songs about singing.

Let Me Sing and I’m Happy – Rudy Marlow AHO
I’m Hummin’, I’m Whistlin’, I’m Singin’ – Irving Aaronson and His Commanders / Bing Crosby, v.

Wrapping up this set of singing songs and tonight’s show is Bert Hirsch directing the Hit of the Week Orchestra
I Wanna Sing About You – HOW Orchestra
