Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show, we’re going to celebrate the birthdays of Horace Heidt and Fats Waller, and we’re going to celebrate the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: New ’78s
I was recently in Sacramento California for a business meeting, and took some time between the end of the meeting and my flight to visit Brooks Novelty Antiques and Records in Old Town Sacramento. In addition to vintage jukeboxes, arcade games and vending machines, Brooks has 10s of thousands of LPs and thousands of 78s. When I left, he had a few more dollars but several fewer 78s, than when I went in, and here they are.

Hallelujah – Cass Hagan and His Hotel Manger Orchestra
Here We Are – Ted Weems and His Orchestra
The Doll Dance – Eddie Peabody and His Banjo
Man With New Radio – Alec Templeton

Segment 2: Fats Waller
May 21 marked the birth in 1904 in Waverly, New York of Thomas Wright Waller, better known as “Fats”.

Handful of Keys – Fats Waller
How Ya, Baby – Fats Waller and His Rhythm
Sugar – Fats Waller
Carolina Shout – Fats Waller

Segment 3: Horace Heidt
May 21 marked the birth a century ago in Alameda, California of bandleader Horace Heidt.

Melancholy – Horace Heidt and His Californians / Harold Moore, v.
It’s in the Book – Horace Heidt AHO / Johnny Standley
Dawn of a New Day – Horace Heidt AHO / The Glee Club, v.

Segment 4: Golden Gates
May 27 in 1937, ceremonies marking the opening of one of the greatest engineering marvels in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge, were held in San Francisco, CA. So here to commemorate the Golden Gate Bridge, are some golden gate songs.

Golden Gate – Herb Weidoeft and His Orchestra
Tiptoe Through the Tulips – the Golden Gate Orchestra
Look Who’s Here – the Golden Gate Orchestra
