On this evening’s show, we’re going to do something about the weather, and we’re going to celebrate the birthdays of three very divergent people, Shirley Temple, William Shakespeare, and Marconi, without whose invention you wouldn’t be able to receive this broadcast.

Segment 1: Hillbilly
To get us started, we’re going to look back at this past week in history when on April 23 in 1900, the word hillbilly was first used in print in an article in the “New York Journal”.

Segment 4: Radio
April 25 marked the birth in 1874 in Bologna, Italy of physicist and inventor Guglielmo Marconi. He developed short-wave radio equipment, and established a worldwide radio telegraph network for the British government. You can thank Marconi for being able to listen to the show. Segment 5: Weathering
April 26 in 1921, weather broadcasts were heard for the first time on radio when WEW in St. Louis, MO aired the weather news. Well, as they say, everyone talks about the weather, but no one does any thing about it, so we’re going to do something about it. We’re going to play some songs about it.
