Segment 3: Louis Armstrong
Louis Daniel Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Raised by his mother in extreme poverty, Armstrong served a term for delinquency at the Coloured Waifs Home at age 12 after firing a gun in the air on New Years Eve. It was at the reform school wher ehe learned to play the cornet.

Segment 4: Louise Armstrong
Louis Armstrong recorded his first Hot Five records in 1925, and it was the first time he had made records under his own name. The band never played live but continued recording until 1928. In June, 1931, he returned to New Orleans for the first time since he had left in 1922.
