Segment 1: Cruciverbalist
I came across a new word the other day, and so we’re going to start off the show with a vocabulary lesson: cruciverbalist. A cruciverbalist is someone who writes, or is an aficionado of…crossword puzzles. I don’t know if any of these will be of any help when you’re working your next crossword puzzle, but here we’ve got some songs about…words.

Segment 2: Wishful Thinking
Listener Fred in La Crescent requested “If I Had a Girl Like You” by Henny Hendrickson’s Louisville Serenaders. Unfortunately, I don’t have it, but I can grant half of Fred’s request. I do have a recording of “If I had a Girl Like You”, but it’s by Rudy Vallee, which is going to start off a set of wishful thinking songs.

Segment 4: Etiquette
October 3 in 1872, Emily Price was born. You know her better as Emily Post, THE authority on etiquette. I just love this next record, and you hear a reference to it in every edition of the show, appropriately.

Segment 5: Nuts
October 2 marked the debut in 1950 of the comic strip, Peanuts, created by Charles Schultz. So here to commemorate “Peanuts”, are some songs about “peanuts” Peanuts the nut, not peanuts the comic strip.

Segment 6: Automatic Player Piano
October 4 in 1881, Edward H. Leveaux of Surrey, England received a U.S. patent for his completely automatic player piano. I just love player pianos. And as a matter of fact, my wife and I met at the home of a mutual friend who had a player piano.
