Rapidly Rotating Records Logo

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show, we’re going to celebrate Sir Malcolm Campbell, we’ve got some virtuous songs, we’ll have some delicious songs, and some fowl songs.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Waiting
I came across some quotations recently about patience, which has inspired this segment about waiting patiently.

Waiting – Phil Baxter’s Orch
(What are you waiting for) Mary – Paul Whiteman / Bing Crosby
I’m Glad I Waited – Ray Noble and His New Mayfair Orchestra / Al Bowlly, v.
The World is Waiting for the Sunrise – Jess Stacy, piano / Gene Krupa, drums. / Israel Crosby, bass.

Segment 2: Bluebird
September 3 in 1935, Sir Malcolm Campbell became the first person to drive an automobile over 300 miles an hour. His car was called the Bluebird Special. So in commemoration of Sir Malcolm’s speed record in the Bluebird Special, here are some records about bluebirds

Hello Bluebird – Broadway Bellhops / Jimmy Flynn, v.
I’m Looking for a Little Bluebird – Jelly Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers
My Blackbirds and Bluebirds Now – The Natl. Cavaliers
So the Bluebird and the Blackbird Got Together – Paul Whiteman AHO / The Rhythm Boys, v.

Segment 3: Food
September 4, 1885, the Echange Buffet, the first self-service cafeteria in the U. S. opened in New York City. In commemoration here is a veritable smorgasbord of delicious songs.

I Say It’s Spinach – Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians
From Soup to Nuts – Felix Arndt
Greasy Plate Stomp – Trombone Red and His Blue Six
Pastafazoola – Harry Reser’s Six Jumping Jacks

Segment 4: Chickens
September 9, 1890 was the birthday of Harland Sanders. That’s Colonel Harland Sanders, famous for his special blend of herbs and spices for his fried chicken. So in honor of Col. Sanders, are some songs about….you guessed it….chickens.

Chick, Chick, Chick, Chick, Chicken – Six Jumping Jacks
Chicken Supper Strut – Triangle Harmony Boys
Chicken on the Apple – Frankie Reynolds AHO
