Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – Sept. 5, 2021

My Sweet Adair Sheet Music Cover

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

This week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records starts off with a first time birthday salute to American poet Eugene FIeld. You’ll want to have a tissue on hand before listening to the Eugene Field segment which starts off with “Little Boy Blue” and “Oh Mother My Love.” The second segment has to do with Tarzan, but there’s a very specific reason for choosing that topic, which you’ll find out at the end of the segment. The third segment is dedicated to lyricist L. Wolfe Gilbert, better known to his family and friends and “Wolfie.” He wrote the words to “My Sweet Adair” in 1915 and you’ll hear it sung by James F. Harrison (Frederick J. Wheeler) and James Reed (Reed Miller).  There’s a very special reason I’m playing that record and that is that my wife Rita’s unmarried name is Adair. This sheet music and a copy of the record are elaborately framed and hanging on the wall of our living room, an anniversary gift to her some years ago. “Scat” Powell sings about Tarzan in the second segment, but you’ll hear more about him and a couple more of his records in the final segment of the show. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage, relax and be transported magically back to a different musical era.

ENJOY THE SHOW!

I hope you are all safe and healthy and doing as well as you can be given the current world situation and stay-at-home orders and that this hour of music gives you a bit of diversion and entertainment. Thanks for listening and best wishes!
